Entertainment Weekly gave the album a B-plus, writing that it sounds like Sheryl Crow's album, "Tuesday Night Music Club" and that it is "leavened with hooks and humor and a refreshing, unself-conscious swagger."
Allmusic wrote: "Blurring the Edges isn't necessarily a bad album -- Brooks is a competent melodicist and her lyrics are occasionally promising -- yet it isn't a distinctive one."
