"Farmer's Daughter" debuted at #28 on the Billboard 200, selling 58,000 copies. As of October 2011, it has sold 205,000 copies.

Critical Reception[]

"Farmer's Daughter" received mixed to positive reviews. Metacritic gave the album 63 out of 100 based on six critical reviews.

Allmusic gave the album 2.5 stars out of 5, writing: "Bowersox has the core ingredients of a solid little record here; she just could use help in forming it into an actual album."

Joey Guerra of the Houston Chronicle said the album "failed to live up to Idol hype."

The New York Times wrote that Bowersock "has a keen, finely honed pop instinct all her own."

Slant Magazine wrote that the album "is consistent with the singer-songwriter's public persona, then, because it finds her attempting to rise above production values that are fundamentally at odds with what she does well."
