Repeat Offender is Richard Marx's second studio album which was released on April 26, 1989 by Capitol Records.
Album Background[]
After touring for fourteen months on his first album, Richard Marx returned to the studio with a number of songs that had been written while on the road.
It was recorded with well-known L.A.-area studio musicians and would go on to become even more successful than his debut record, pushing Prince out of the #1 spot on Billboard 200 album chart.
The album was the result of the energy generated from over a year and a half on the road and was written or co-written entirely by Marx. Marx said: "Some people might think that it would be easier this time around, that I could just kick back, but the truth is, it’s harder, I’ve got more to prove."

Chart Performance[]
"Repeat Offender" topped the Billboard 200 and was certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA with sales of 4,000,000. It also topped the charts in Australia (where it was certified 2x platinum).
The album also reached Platinum and Gold status in Germany, Hong Kong, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland and Sweden.
Critical Reception[]
Allmusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine said that the album "was almost as strong as his first, even if it shows that his songwriting has a tendency to slip into sappy, saccharine clichés."
